The Lord is My Shepherd

Rest in the Shepherd’s Care

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” – Psalm 23:1 (NIV)

In a world that constantly tells us we need more—more success, more stuff, more strength—Psalm 23 begins with a profound counter-message: “I lack nothing.” Why? Because the Lord is our Shepherd. He isn’t distant or disinterested. He is personal, present, and deeply invested in our well-being.

When life feels overwhelming, God offers rest: green pastures for our weary souls and quiet waters to calm our anxious minds. He doesn’t just patch us up—He restores us. He leads us, not with pressure or panic, but with purpose, guiding us on the right path for His glory, not ours.

But even in the darkest valleys—the hospital rooms, the heartbreaks, the battles we never chose—He walks with us. His presence is our protection. His rod and staff, symbols of both discipline and defense, bring us comfort, not fear.

And then, something beautiful happens. God doesn’t just lead us through trouble—He prepares a feast for us in the presence of it. Right there, in front of enemies and fears, He honors and blesses us. Our cup isn’t just filled—it overflows.

Psalm 23 ends with a promise: goodness and love will pursue us every day, and our forever home is secure in His presence.

Today, pause and let that truth wash over you. You are not alone. You are not forgotten. You are not lacking.

You are shepherded.

Prayer:

Lord,
Thank You for being my Shepherd.
In every moment—whether peaceful or painful—You are near.
Lead me beside still waters when life feels rushed.
Restore my soul when I am weary.
Even in dark valleys, help me trust that You walk with me.
Let Your goodness and love surround me today,
and remind me that I am always safe in Your care.
Amen.

Psalm 23 (NIV)

1
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Song;

Verse 1
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not fear,
He leads me to pastures where waters are clear.
He gives me new strength when my spirit is low,
And shows me the pathway where his mercy flows.

Chorus
You are with me, I’m never alone,
In the darkest valley, Your light is shown.
Your rod and staff bring peace to my soul,
You spread out a table and feed me full
Surely Your goodness will follow my days,
And I will abide in your warmth always

Verse 2
Though shadows may gather and trials descend,
I trust in Your protection that will not end.
My cup overflows with blessings untold,
You crown me with favor, my heart made bold.

Chorus
You are with me, I’m never alone,
In the darkest valley, Your light is shown.
Your rod and staff bring peace to my soul,
You spread out a table and feed me full
Surely Your goodness will follow my days,
And I will abide in your warmth always

Bridge
In Your dwelling I’ll sing evermore,
Safe in the arms I was made for.
Peace like a river flows through my pain,
Love everlasting, in You I remain.

Final Chorus
You are with me, I’m never alone,
In the darkest valley, Your light is shown.
Your rod and staff bring peace to my soul,
You spread out a table and feed me full
Surely Your goodness will follow my days,
And I will abide in your warmth always

Forever I’ll dwell in the house of the Lord—
Shepherd of my soul, I am Yours.

Song: Lord, We Lift Our Hearts – Duet Vocal

Almighty God, our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer,
We come before You today with hearts full of praise and adoration. You are the One who spoke the universe into being, the Sovereign King over all creation. You are holy, mighty, and worthy of all glory and honor. We lift Your name high, for You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Your love endures forever, and Your faithfulness continues through all generations.

Heavenly Father, we gather in Your presence as Your children, each carrying our own burdens, hopes, and prayers. You see us, Lord, just as we are, and You meet us with a love and compassion that never fails. You are the God who knows us intimately and cares for us deeply.

Today, we lift up those among us who are facing sickness. Lord, we ask for Your healing hand to rest upon them, bringing strength to their bodies, peace to their minds, and comfort to their spirits. For those who care for the sick, we pray for endurance, wisdom, and grace as they serve with love and dedication.

We also intercede for those struggling with loss—whether it be the loss of jobs, financial security, or loved ones. Lord, be their provider, their peace, and their comfort. Open doors of opportunity for those in need, and remind them that You are the God who sees and provides. For the grieving, surround them with Your love, and let them find solace in Your promises.

We thank You, Father, for the servants among us—those who give selflessly, reflecting Your light through their actions. Bless them abundantly, strengthen them for the tasks You have set before them, and fill their hearts with the joy of serving in Your name.

In the midst of trials, we pause to thank You for Your unwavering faithfulness. Even when life feels uncertain, You remain our solid rock. Thank You for the gift of grace through Christ, for the hope we have in Your promises, and for the assurance that You are always with us.

Lord, as we enter this time of communion and tribute to the Lord’s Supper, we beseech You to hear our worship on this day. Let it rise as a fragrant offering before You. May You be pleased with the way we worship, with the words of our mouths, the meditations of our hearts, and the unity of our fellowship. Transform our hearts as we remember the ultimate sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who gave His body and shed His blood for our salvation.

May our worship honor You, and may our hearts be renewed by Your Spirit. Draw us closer to You, and fill this place with Your holy presence.

We pray all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

Lord, we lift our hearts before You,
In the stillness of this place.

Mighty Savior, Lord of Light.
In Your presence, hearts are mended,
Darkness flees before Your night.

You have seen our pain and sorrow,
Every tear and silent cry.
Yet Your love is never failing,
Through the storm, You’re by our side.

Hallelujah, we adore You,
Mighty Savior, Lord of Light.
In Your presence, hearts are mended,
Darkness flees before Your might.

Redemption Story (Song Version)

Verse 1:
Before the stars adorned the night,
Before the sun gave earth its light,
The Word was spoken, creation came,
Through Jesus, the Maker, who knew our name.
He formed the earth, the skies, the seas,
Breathed life into humanity.
From dust we rose, His Spirit’s flame,
To bear His image, to praise His name.

Verse 2:
In Eden’s garden, peace was found,
Until the serpent’s lie unbound.
The fruit was taken, the fall began,
Sin entered the hearts of every man.
Yet even then, God’s love remained,
A Savior promised to break the chain.
From Adam’s sin to grace restored,
A plan of redemption from the Lord.

Bridge:
Oh, the cross, where mercy flows,
The empty grave, the story shows.
Sin defeated, love prevailed,
Through Christ alone, redemption hailed.
Oh, the cross, where hope is found,
His grace abounds, His love profound.
He bore the weight, the debt was paid,
In Him, the victory’s displayed.

Verse 4:
Mary, chosen, her heart so pure,
Through her, God’s love would long endure.
She held the Savior, her baby boy,
The King of kings, her heart’s great joy.
Did she know the cross He’d face,
The pain, the nails, the world’s disgrace?
Through grief, she trusted, through loss, she prayed,
Believing in the plan God made.

Chorus:
From the beginning, His love was displayed,
Through every fall, His promise stayed.
A Savior’s grace, a story divine,
Redemption secured for hearts like mine.

Verse 6:
To die with Christ, to rise anew,
To walk His path, His love pursue.
The cross became the bridge to grace,
A gift of life in His embrace.
Through history’s thread, His story flows,
A love eternal, a truth that grows.
My story now entwined with His,
A song of hope, a life that lives.

Final Chorus:
From the beginning, His love was displayed,
Through every fall, His promise stayed.
A Savior’s grace, a story divine,
Redemption secured for hearts like mine.

Outro:
His story echoes through all of time,
A Savior’s love, so pure, so kind.
One day we’ll stand before His throne,
Forever redeemed, forever His own.

The leaders schemed, their hearts grew cold,
Blinded by power, they sought control.
They called Him a blasphemer, sentenced His death,
Yet love endured with His final breath.
Betrayed by a kiss for silver’s gleam,
Denied by a friend in a broken dream.
Yet grace would triumph, death undone,
Victory through God’s risen Son.
